My artistic expression has recently found its anchor in printmaking. As an emerging artist and art educator,
my creative and academic path so far was very diverse. In January of 2024, I took my first steps in etching and aquatinta at my art university and fell deeply in love. I have previously taught myself the art of linocuts, tetra prints and monotypes which were my main points of expression for a few years, along with the ceramics.
Printmaking is a magical way to think of images. It makes me so joyous to deepen my knowledge in printmaking, try new things, make mistakes, and expand my printmaking circle of enthusiasts. As I imagine the next picture that
I wish to create, I find it particularly interesting to think how to approach the idea, which technique to use, and in which areas to challenge myself. The moment I started to understand the wizardry of aquatinta is the moment when I started imagining all the possibilities in working with color and hues. I found the watery nature of aquatinta technique a generous way of combining the linear and graphic, with the fluid and painterly. I am a colorist, and working in black and white is limiting to me.
I usually find beauty in the wrinkled, peculiar faces, food markets, the sea, and the witty sentences I hear around me. A friend once told me how while observing hands of old people, and they thought of me and how I would enjoy to draw it. That was a very touching compliment for me. True, the observation of the passing of time, of the everyday, and of humorous details are my most inspiring forces.
