Monoprint and drypoint on paper.
‘Folding, Unfolding, Refolding’ Print Series.
This series is created using found material, just like the previous prints; this time the material is chosen for its ability to fold and to create variety on the printed surface.
Unlike the previous work, here the focus is exclusively on the folds created by the printed press. Ribbons and paper are used instead than fabric, and inked with contrasting colours on both sides or on one side only.
The drypoint background works as a contrast and complement to the geometric perfection of the folded ribbon/paper; this perfection is indeed not designed or achieved by controlling the process. On the contrary, this apparent tidiness is due to chance and the fortuitous action of the printing press, rather than the intelligent intention of the artist.
