“A unique opportunity to connect and find inspiration”
“For me, taking part in OPEN Portfolio 2024 was a unique opportunity to connect with other graphic artists from both Spain and abroad, and to find inspiration in their work.”
This is how Lars P Amundsen describes his experience at OPEN Portfolio. A printer and graphic artist working with letterpress, he found in the event a rare space of openness and inspiration.
“When I first presented my pieces, I wasn’t sure if the jury would consider and appreciate letterpress as a valid art form. But I believe my experience shows that this event truly focuses on emerging graphic artists, regardless of the technique or medium used.”
Lars was also struck by the community built around the project: “I was also impressed to meet the team behind the event and to see the vibrant community of printers and visitors they’ve built over the years through OPEN Portfolio and FIG Bilbao.”
“In addition to the participating artists, I had the chance to meet many other interesting people who even invited us to visit their local print workshops after hours.”
Since then, the group has stayed in touch: “We’ve created a group chat where we share news about printmaking competitions and artist residencies in other countries.”
“All in all, it’s been a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it to other emerging artists thinking of submitting their work.”
