OPEN BILBAO 2026 EDITION

Three days. Fourteen artists. And printmaking as an excuse to think.

12–14 June 2026 · Bilbao · Free admission

OPEN Portfolio celebrates its thirteenth edition from 12 to 14 June at Sala Rekalde (Alameda Rekalde, 30, Bilbao), establishing itself as one of the leading international programmes dedicated to contemporary printmaking. The encounter brings together 14 artists from Europe, Asia and Latin America, selected from over a hundred proposals submitted from some twenty countries. This edition reinforces OPEN Portfolio’s position as a platform for visibility and encounter within emerging and consolidating contexts of graphic practice.

Printmaking is not a technique. It is a way of seeing.

Matrix, trace, repetition. OPEN Portfolio starts there, but does not stop there. The practices selected for this edition cross printmaking with photography, writing and painting. Not to dilute it, but to better understand what it is made of.
The expanded image as a space of record. Of memory. Of time that leaves a mark.

Processes, techniques and exhibition in real time

Over three days, Sala Rekalde becomes an active workspace open to the public, with printmaking demonstrations, portfolio presentations and direct encounters with the participating artists.

As a highlight of the programme, OPEN Portfolio will welcome María Expósito Santiso — specialist in artistic lithography and director of the M.E. Santiso studio — who will lead a masterclass on lithography as a medium of artistic expression. The session will explore the drawing materials used in this technique and their capacity to produce the wide range of lines and textures characteristic of lithography, culminating in a live printing demonstration using a portable press.

Alongside this, the participating artists themselves will share their working processes through a series of open demonstrations. Iga Budzik, Nuria Español, Omar Árcega and Stefano Minutella will present different approaches to contemporary printmaking, turning Sala Rekalde into a space of exchange where processes, techniques and experimentation take centre stage.

In addition, all fourteen selected artists will share their portfolios in open sessions, generating a space for dialogue around the research, production and development processes behind their artistic practices.

Programme

Beyond the exhibition of works, OPEN Portfolio proposes an approach to the mechanisms that make contemporary graphic practice possible, shifting the focus from the final object to the conditions of production and placing process at the centre of artistic practice.
